The Cattery

My love affair with Curls began with a picture (right) of one of the most beautiful cats I'd ever seen - SGC Geris Carbon Copy. I decided to work with them based on what I'd read as there were no Curls nearby which I could meet. I must admit I couldn't be more delighted with them! They're wonderful additions to any home - loving and affectionate yet energetic and mischievous! They require little grooming - simply a weekly brushing and an occasional bath. Their ears produce abundant dark wax however, and should be cleaned weekly.

The Cattery name, "Sarcenet" is a "fine soft silk fabric used for clothing, ribbons, etc." A perfect name for these curly-eared, silken delights! And for how we raise them, read below...

All of our cats live in our home and litters are raised here too, to aid in socializing the kittens - and of course this allows us  to enjoy them! Kittens stay here until they are about four months old - research has shown that cats need more socializing than dogs and shouldn't be separated from the litter until that age. Also, Curl ears achieve their final shape at that age, allowing them to be evaluated as to whether they are Show, Breeder or Pet quality. Note that I use the term "quality" loosely - all Curls make the most marvellous and loving companions you can imagine!

I do early neutering so that all kittens not destined to a responsible breeding programme will be delivered spayed or neutered to their new homes. Early spay/neuter is something I firmly believe in, it helps assure me that no unwanted kittens are brought into the world and relieves the future owner of having to worry about getting their cat neutered. To read a great article which reflects how I feel about this, go to the "Spay/Neuter" page. If you'd like more information, click here to read an article by Dr. Susan Little DVM, complete with references in prestigious veterinary journals.

All potential owners will be thoroughly screened and interviewed so that I feel secure in finding the best possible homes for my "babies". Due to the rare nature of the breed (there are only around 1500 in the world) all cats must be indoor only. Declawing is NOT permitted - nor is it necessary as a simple weekly manicure does the same thing. All new owners will be provided with lots of information on cat care (well, they will probably be bombarded with information!) and I will always be available to answer any questions.

So that future owners know that their kitty will be a happy, healthy one all kittens sold will either have a Veterinary Certificate of Health or we will require the new owner to take them to their vet within the first 48 hours. All new cats entering the house are tested and are FIV/FeLV negative. Although I hope to get some great show quality cats, health and temperament are my two main concerns - I want to be sure that all my kittens will be a joy to own.
